A quick guide to NYC’s boroughs

New York City is composed of mainly five boroughs i.e. Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. Interestingly, every one of these boroughs has the same boundaries as you’d expect from a country. The original term borough was first adopted to mainly describe the rather unique form of government and administration for every one of the five integral parts of the newly consolidated and entire city of New York.  Today, every borough offers tourists something unique and are worth the visit whether you’re on a short tour or a full blown American road trip.

Manhattan

This borough is packed with numerous attractions, drinking and dining. The best place for any budget traveler who wants to experience American culture in its true sense. So, whether its top restaurants, bars or even Broadway shows, Manhattan is your go to area.

Brooklyn

This is the second borough which has rapidly been expanding and setting itself apart from all the others. This is where the music scene thrives and where tourists will love the Gray Line now running tours. Consider this to be America’s fourth largest city if it was independent and so its home to various communities like Russians in the enclaves at Brighton Beach and Greenpoint being famous for the Polish.

Queens

This borough carries with it a classic mix of New York attractions like Flushing Meadows and Citi Field, along with the growing dining and art scenes. This borough has something for everyone regardless of if you are looking for a great Spanish restaurant or a high end bar.

The Bronx

This is the only borough of New York which is attached physically to mainland USA. The two biggest attractions for tourists from across the world is Yankee Stadium and the huge Bronx zoo. The Grand Concourse as well as a tiny slice of Italy in Belmont which also enchants tourists with its beautiful Botanical Garden.

Staten Island

Historic Richmond Town and Staten Island Zoo, are two of the main attractions on the Island for tourists besides lush green gardens and reptile exhibits.
